Recent Grad -> ??? -> IB

Looking for advice on the best track/way to get into IB.

I am better than my GPA. Unfortunately, mistakes and immaturity early in my UG days have limited my FT opportunities.

Looking for advice for what I should look for in a FT where learned/enhanced skills will transfer or correlate to an eventual push toward banking. Have thought about CorpDev mostly, but wondering if there are other avenues/ideas.

I was once in a similar position. Can say it's really all about networking as people can push past the GPA. So, at this stage you really just want to get your name and face in front of as many recruiters, alumni in banking, or anyone who will give you time of day. Not only will networking now inevitably land you future interviews, but will also help you to grow a professional network you can reference in 1-2 years when you might be looking for your next move.

Since you're late to the game, I'd look to the LMM investment banks as hiring will be on a more "as needed" basis. I'd also perform a quick search to see what are the top LMM investment banks in your city. Then go through the teams/ banks that you have the most interest in and email analysts/associates. Side note, the LMMs are fairly small and even an Analyst can throw you into the ring. Additionally, I would personalize outreach emails and keep them simple, a template that changes case-by-case is best. Track each email going out and follow up about a week after if no response, following up has landed me more conversations than anything. During calls emphasize that you are looking for a role but it's not the main purpose of the call, you're there to learn first. Ask good questions, take notes, say thank you with personalized message. Then repeat this process.

You will become memorable and when the next opportunity comes you'll be in the interview room.
