Recruiting at IB from non-target as an international

Hey y'all,

I am an international at non-target. My school is in top 20 bschools, but not the target due to our small size. Also, I am international which makes it harder, so what I did is applied to LSE one year study abroad during my junior year and was wondering what are some ways I can leverage LSE for US or UK IB recruiting.

I’m a UK student in the US and with my conversations with UK banks they said, its very difficult to summer recruit for UK banks when at a US institution regardless of nationality. I know Visa sponsorship will be more of an issue since you’re studying in the US not the UK.

I’m no expert but I imagine networking would be a good idea so that when you graduate from the US, you could apply for FT positions. Also doing well in your study abroad would definitely make it easier for you to go to LSE for a masters if thats something you’d be interested in.

I see. I am trying to maximize my standing as much as possible and coming from non-target, I assumed LSE would be a good selling point.

Also, I have been hearing that the UK is not doing the greatest at the moment in terms of hiring new analyst/interns but I would want to recruit for 2024.

Masters in finance could be a good idea too?

LSE won't really help you since you are not actually a student there

Do you attend a US school or UK? You basically have to go to school in the US to do US recruiting. Even that is a tough sell, many US firms simply do not sponsor visas anymore as the odds have gotten so low.

Not familiar with UK visa situation, but if you are studying in the UK you may qualify for a visa there - would do a search for more clarity. Or if your home country has an agreement with the UK, or if you go to a "high potential" school and get that automatic visa.
