Referral Removal

Context: I got a referral from an individual in an BB, this individual is not an MD nor a member of IB teams. Recently and for no reason, his/her personality changed drastically and does not want to have anything to do with me (after the last episode, I want the same).

Is it possible to remove the referral? Is it ethical?

Can you get blacklisted for personal reasons? (based on biased POV)

I mean it's probably higher risk to contact someone at the bank and try to explain, in a way that doesn't get you in trouble, that one of their active employees is psycho and you no longer want them to be your reference. It'll just look odd. Even reading this, with no skin in the game, I'm kinda like "Ehhhhh, could OP actually be the crazy one here? This doesn't make sense?". You don't want to have to rely on an MD taking your word over that of a fellow employee of his bank, regardless of such a persons status.

I'd just drop it, unless you submit an online application & selected him as a reference. If that is the case I'd maybe go back and withdraw your application than resubmit it, but even then I'm not sure if applications are viewed as first come / first serve so it might do more harm than good to lose your spot.

You're overthinking this. Doubt he can remove the referral or would even think of it, it's an HR thing and it would be weird/a lot of effort to email them and randomly try to ruin your application. Not something you'd be blacklisted for.

Honestly a referral from someone outside of IB means absolutely nothing anyway... so act like this didn't happen and start networking with people in IB
