Rejected from Global Corporate Banking at JPM
I arrived 5 minutes late to my Superday and there was an analyst (with a JPM vest) already waiting for me which intimidated me a lot. He asked me “how was traffic?” and that kind of questions to break the ice. However he then asked me really hard technical questions and he never asked me a behavioral question, apparently he was really annoyed that I was late and he was trying to kick me out. Then he ended the interview really fast and told me “In a few minutes the next person will be here” I’m not kidding but I waited more than 10 minutes and I was already dying inside. Then the Relationship Manager comes in and for me it was the easiest interview of all. He asked me few technical questions and more about me and he even congratulated me for some accomplishments from my resume. Then an associate comes in, he asked me technical questions but I could answer all, and at the end of the interview he asked me if I was familiar with a guy from my university and I said yes, after that he was really happy and told me “say hi to that person in my honor”. Then two analysts came in (the person who called me for the position and other guy), they asked me like 2 technical questions, however when they asked me about my weaknesses I really froze and I was not able to say a single word, for me that was not a good interview for that. At the end a VP came in and he asked me “what could be the reason for a high EBITDA company to go bankrupt” and I answered that high CAPEX could be a potential reason, he became happy and then he asked me about WC and to elaborate more. Overall I would say that it was not a bad interview and he even took me to the elevator and he told me at the end “if you get to the next round the analyst that contacted you will send you an email”. Unfortunately today we are 3 weeks from that Superday and nothing arrived, I’m pretty sure that the first analyst gave me a veto. What do you guys think?
sounds to me like yeah that analyst probs didnt like you, but it doesnt seem like you performed very well anyways. Point being, with what you described, even if you were on time, I doubt you would've gotten the offer
Damn, thanks for the honesty. Would you say that I’m 100% dead?
Del.
Seconding above. You’re def rejected, sorry. Being early is crucial, and “what’s your greatest weakness” is probably the most important / revealing behavioral question.
Thank you for your comment. In your opinion what’s the best way to answer that question?. I froze because I didn’t want to sound repetitive, I wanted to say something original but I was out of ideas.
You’ve gotta think of something that isn’t a real weakness. Something that isn’t that big of a deal that u can reframe as something you’ve worked on to improve. Common thing I hear is “getting too caught up in the little details.”
You gotta be an idiot for arriving late
Arriving late to a Superday is kiss of death. Should always be early. If it was genuinely beyond your control, I’m sorry, but otherwise consider it as a learning lesson.
