Reneging

Question is should I renege my internship offer at an consultancy for a AM/IM/BB internship

Background: I have an internship offer from an reasonably prestige consultancy (Marsh, mercer, big4, momentum, NOT INCLUDING MBB) this summer that I recently accepted (this week), which I had to accept this week because of the deadline. I had no other offer at this time. I am also still actively recruiting

I am also currently in the process for an asset management / investment management internship investment research position and a few other BB/SWF internship positions, but the AC isn't til later next month.

On the condition that I do receive an offer from one of these firms, should I renege and are there consequences of reneging an consultancy offer for a IM/AM/BB offer?

Thanks for the reply.

I seen many discussions about this regarding banks (e.g. EB to BB etc).

In my case this is from rejecting consulting to accepting possible AM/IB offer.

e.g. After i have accepted (internship starts in july), but i chose to reject in the next 4-8 weeks, how bad is that?

And should I tell them via a call or email?

Funny cuz the places people reneg for (GS, etc.) would lay you off in a heart beat if they needed to, but the places that people reneg from (Blair, RayJ, etc.) strive to make layoffs a last resort
