@mistermontana", you should first see what your school's policy on reneging is. Many schools will ban you from OCR if you renege, so keep that in mind. Otherwise, I think your parents and school counselor steered you in the wrong direction. I would not get in the habit of reneging, but if you accepted an okay role and then received an offer from your dream job, I would certainly suggest reneging in that case. You do not want to bring up that you have accepted an offer at Firm A if you're interviewing at Firm B. Firm B would not only ding you, but if they know anyone at Firm A, you can bet they'd let Firm A know, and Firm A would promptly rescind their offer.

"clowningaround" I interned for a top tier BB (GS, MS, JPM) and did a operation role. It wasn't bad but I knew that wasn't what I wanted to do long term and I don't want to be stuck in it forever. I got another offer for Big 4 Advisory but thats really it. I do want to renege to try something different + I've always thought consulting was really interesting. What are the worst consequences with reneging?

What do you mean reneg? You can't just be re-assigned to a different role in the company. You'd have to go through a new hiring manager unless you knew someone really high up.

"AP613" I interned for a BB (GS/MS/JPN) in Operations this past summer and received a return offer. I received another offer in consulting and want to renege but I'm worried I will lose both offers and get blacklisted. What are the likely consequences?

lol blacklisted for negotiating?

You can tell both firms you're considering another company. Usually it helps to leverage a better salary. Just think of yourself as being in high demand, more valuable. Employers like that.
