Career Resources
For gross salary it'd be like 32%, living in St John's Wood, fairly high but I value living in a good area and having a good living space.
Not sure how much you earn but you can live very well with £1.7-2K monthly for a nice 1-bedroom flat. You just need to do some in-depth searching. I guess for most people that will be 20-30% of their monthly gross salary
Spending 2k on rent as an Analyst would be insane. You can get a great room in a shared house for maybe 900. I really think at the early stage you want to be living with other people, ideally in similar careers. It's great to be able to have some social interaction on weekdays even if it is at Midnight.
The insanity of the 2K depends on your salary as it's all proportional. I agree that if you come to a new city alone, living with others is great for interaction. Then again, you'll probably become close to other analysts in your class so the need to have people at home isn't paramount. I guess it also depends on the person. If I come back at 2am tired as hell and know I can count on only 5-6 hours of sleep I don't want to run the risk of coming back to a dirty, smelly flat with shit everywhere. You either have to luck out with roommates (ideally other IBers) or live alone if you're than kind of person
Spending £250 pw for a shared 2 bed flat in Bloomsbury/King's Cross. I think going past £1.4k a month would be inadvisable. 16.25% of gross (not including utilities) as a Y1 IB Analyst at BB.
Guessing that’s 16.25% of your all in comp right?
