Research Associate = ER?
Does the job title "Research Associate" (at a Big 5 bank) mean the same as Equity Research Associate?

Most likely it does
Generally it will.
However, I see no reason a person wouldn't call themselves an equity research associate if that is their specific title.
I certainly wouldn't assume every analyst at JP/MS/GS is in IBD for example.
In context the general term research associate isn't specific enough to comment; you can be an economist or a junior data scientist etc...
I came across a job posting for a Research Associate. The job is securities analysis/similar to ER, but this firm DOES have other job postings listed as ER rather than Research Associate, which is why I'm confused.
Unless you post the listing or ask the firm nobody can really add much else. Aside from that, look to see if it requires a series 86/87 exam, then it is definitively ER.
