Resources for Technology Investment Banking
Hi, everyone.
I am potentially interested in pursuing IB in the tech sector and I was curious where I could learn more about tech banking. I have googled the field but I am just getting info at firms that specify what the firms do for the field. I was wanting to learn more about just the general field.
Are there anyone purely-informational sources any of you know of?
Thanks.
PM Frank Quattrone, or go look at his AMA.
The AMA I found was from someone who called themselves Frank Quattrone but said they weren't actually him. I PM'd him, nevertheless.
Are there any other resources you'd recommend, preferably articles, videos, or books?
I do not follow technology, just know of Frank Quattrone was a big name in that industry and appears on the forums. You may be able to look into his company Qatalyst Group to do some more digging around into his deals.
Wish I could offer more insight, but I'm in no position to do so for Tech.
Tech banking is not too different from other banking -- more of a focus on earlier stage growth companies, and perhaps more potential equity offering work than some other sectors. But tech banking is still just banking, but serving tech clients.
Therefore, your question can be split in 2: - how do I learn more about banking? - how do I learn more about tech / financial angle on tech?
** The first question is covered extensively on this site and will not be rehashed here.
The second question: - read industry specific publications, e.g., Techcrunch, recode, hacker news, stratechery, etc. - read all the standard stuff (dealbook, term sheet, pehub, etc.)
Other things to note / general resources: - Rosenbaum banking book (read this) - macabacus (free modeling resource / more intensive financial educational info) - logointern.com (free logo slide tool - will save you a ton of time in tech banking
Talk to alumni from your school / older friends to hear more about the specifics of their experiences

Hello Gentlemen,
I have a dream of getting into Technology Investment Banking in Sillicon Valley/San Fran with hopes of ending up at VC one day... I just graduated (quarter system) and was not able to secure FT offer yet. I do posses relevant internships spawning tech start-up, summer analyst at small tech IB, start-up PE where I got some transaction experience and a FT sales in retail banking that helped put me trough college. Can anyone suggest how to build a solid base of knowledge in technology that would separate me from other candidates and help me network? Any other tips or guidance is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
hit up alumni. and reach out to people in the business. that's always the answer for 'how do i break into x'
Thanks. Can anyone suggest some good tech blogs that pick out only the most relevant news? I know Tech Crunch, but I feel like it takes awhile to go trough it and get to the most important stuff.
