Return Summer Internship in Different Division

Hi all,

Recently interned at a bank and received a return offer for 2021. I am completing a top MFE programme in the meantime and would like to be considered for a quant/data scientist summer internship at this bank.

If I was to ask HR about this, what would it do for my return offer to the non-quant division? And if I ask, should I ask before or after signing my return offer (I assume before for obvious reasons but just want to clarify). Would having received a return (for a different division) help a lot or is the gain so marginal it is not worth it? The division I interned in is not related to the work of a quant.
