Reviving Thread: I LOVE IB

Not a shitpost.

I fucking love IB. I see all the threads recently of people complaining about burn out. I get it. I do. In fact, I made one of those posts too. I have been reflecting a lot on this job. I see all the complaints about it too..."The pay isn't what it was" "The hours are too long". Fuck it. I love this grind, this lifestyle. I work on complex deals that I find at the deal level incredibly interesting (sure, my work can be menial, but I always try to contextualize why what I am doing is important). Sure, my bosses can suck and be unreasonable. BUT...I STILL LOVE MY JOB

I have had this fling recently with this southern girl and she loves to call me her Investment Banker "Boyfriend" to her family. Maybe I have Stockholm syndrome. Maybe the woke mind virus has absolutely destroyed testosterone in my generation and that's why there is so much complaining. For me, getting to work on deals I find interesting, being around some of thew most admirable people in finance who I get to learn from and pick their brain, making a ridiculous amount of money compared to national or global averages coming out of a non target shit broke background...oh man...I couldn't be more grateful. Maybe I am feeling my cocktail a little bit rn. And don't get me wrong...I am not always this ecstatic.

I am certain this will get MS but this is not a shit post or me trying to brag. Just wanted to express my absolute excitement to wakeup and do what I do, my gratitude to be in my seat, and maybe spread a little positivity to everyone in the trenches. And don't get me wrong, I have had those 100 hour weeks consistently. I was not loving it then. Important to take a step back and really reflect when I have two minutes to think.

This community is awesome. Hell yea. Cheers to what will hopefully be a great Saturday night

Based on the most engaging WSO threads, it's clear that investment banking evokes a wide range of emotions, from burnout to absolute passion. Your revived thread captures a refreshing perspective—one that celebrates the grind, the intellectual challenge, and the financial rewards of IB. It's not uncommon for professionals to feel a mix of love and frustration for the job, but your gratitude and enthusiasm stand out.

Your reflection highlights key aspects that resonate with many in the industry:

  1. The Grind and Complexity: While the hours can be brutal, the opportunity to work on complex, high-stakes deals is a unique thrill for those who thrive on intellectual challenges.

  2. Learning from the Best: Being surrounded by top-tier professionals and having the chance to absorb their knowledge is a privilege that many in IB deeply value.

  3. Financial Upside: Coming from a non-target background and achieving financial success is a testament to the opportunities IB provides for those willing to put in the work.

  4. Perspective and Gratitude: Taking a step back to appreciate the journey, even amidst the chaos, is a mindset that can help sustain long-term success and satisfaction.

Your post also serves as a reminder that while the job isn't for everyone, for those who truly love the hustle, it can be incredibly rewarding. Cheers to your positivity and passion—it's a great reminder for others in the trenches to reflect on why they started and what keeps them going!
