Rothschild NY Vs. Citi NY

Turned down a Citi offer for one from Rothschild, from a non-target school that doesn't send many people to IB. Been feeling terrible about decision, any thoughts on it? Would appreciate advice.

Pretty dumb decision IMO but if you care more about WLB/culture and want to make a longterm career in IB its more understandable

Yeah I thought so, thanks for the insights. 2 things, how badly did I shoot myself in the foot? And any thoughts on Rothschild in general, still a decent shop to start out at?

How badly you shot yourself in the foot depends on what your goals are. If you want to exit to MF PE, pretty damn badly, I'd say you almost could not have made a worse decision. If you want to work long-term in cross-border M&A, then this is a defensible choice. Even if you don't, if you decide you want to work on big deals down the line, you can always lateral.

Roths is a decent shop, but Citi will open so many more doors for you. The only way this is a halfway smart choice is if you are passionate about RX, in which case fair is fair since BBs don't do RX

good to hear, just been hearing a lot of people the last couple days say it was an awful decision. Do you know much about what's Roth is like? haven't been able to find out as much as I wanted.

great global name, hours aren't terrible across the board, decent exits (group dependent), great comp, solely does M&A/advisory, and if you ever want to work in Europe you have the best historical brand. I don't know why these idiots think you should've joined the Citi dumpster fire over Roths

Really just depends on groups, obv the worst group at Citi is probably still better than Roth’s best group (excluding capital markets) but it’s not egregious if you want to be a career banker. Comp at rothschild is great (still good at citi though) and depending on group, culture can be better or worse. Still wouldn’t have done this though
