Santander IB - M&A
Hey everyone!
Have been looking into Santander quite a bit. Was just curious if anyone had insights into (1) their M&A team and/or (2) their US platform as a whole?
Would appreciate any advice/insights. Thank you!

Career Resources
Santander has been making notable moves recently, particularly with their investment in talent. For example, they have hired numerous senior Credit Suisse bankers and even entire teams, as reported by Bloomberg. This indicates a strategic push to strengthen their platform. However, while hiring is a positive step, it remains to be seen how much of Credit Suisse's business these teams can retain and how effectively Santander can leverage this talent.
Regarding their US platform, foreign banks, including Santander, have historically faced challenges scaling operations in the US due to regulatory hurdles and competition from larger domestic players. Many foreign banks, such as HSBC, RBS, and Deutsche Bank, have scaled back or exited parts of their US businesses. Santander, however, appears to be investing heavily in its platform, which could signal a commitment to growth in the region.
If you're considering opportunities with Santander, their recent investments in talent and platform development could be promising, but it’s worth keeping an eye on how these efforts translate into deal flow and market presence.
