Scotiabank Exit Opps

Anyone know what the exit opps are out of Scotiabank IB in NYC? Not even discriminating by group placement here, just in general since it looks like exit opps are limited across the board. This is based on a quick LinkedIn search and digging through a couple of the older forums here, but they're a bit old.

Seems like at best you can try lateraling to another bigger bank based on the aforementioned sources, but even this seems challenging. Most people there seem to just stay for a while and try moving up. Obviously based on this, there's no HF/PE presence coming out of Scotia.

Anyone have differing information?

In Canada we have the big 5 banks + national bank. Also got a couple smaller banks like laurentian and desjardins. Canada specializes in mining and o&g (out of Calgary). Obviously Toronto and Calgary have some nice teams and Montreal is diversified with a strong presence from bmo and national bank dominating the market.

Now to answer your question , Scotiabank is part of the big 5 in Canada, but it is known as being the bottom of the big 5. They do have some decent deal flow but they are not even that strong in Canada (6th in Montreal for example). I don’t even want to imagine what they are like in New York or the USA. I know RBC and bmo are somewhat strong in the us with Td/cibc/scotia being very small.

I would do ib there and then try and lateral to a larger bank before trying to exit to the buy side. You could also try lateraling to a larger team in Toronto perhaps, but realistically I would try and lateral to a larger Canadian bank in New York like RBC or even bmo. From there the exits will be stronger
