Senior analyst giving me all his work so he can take the day off

I have been noticing a senior analyst on my team giving me all his work and then logging off. Yesterday, his Microsoft Teams status showed that he was away from his computer all day long. That was after he assigned me some work. I am not unhappy about this. I don’t mind doing his work, but is this common across the street?

I've got fellow analysts who stay yellow all the time. They are always working, but they set it up that way so no one can tell when they are there or not. As to the guy giving you all his work, I'd say that is not super common, but if you started recently, it is probably for the best. If you've been there for a year, that is not cool.

I'm curious, what's the upside to setting it as yellow all the time? Surely it would be better to have it so it actually shows if you're there are not so someone doesn't end up expecting an instant reply on something urgent if you're left your desk for 10 mins. I understand you can have your work phone on you for emails but there will even be times where you don't have your phone?
