Sent thank you letter to wrong employee

Hi Guys,

After my interview I accidentally sent a thank you note to the wrong person in the firm. He has the same name and my interviewer did not give me his business card so it was an honest mistake. Is this possibly damaging at all?

i would add that having the flowers sent to their personal residence would be a nice touch. It shows you have the research skills to be successful in their organization, and that you know where they live. You might even deliver the flowers in person.

he should send a fruit basket

If they have the same first and last name then no problem, if they have just the same first name say that as you were going through the list employees he was the first person to show up with that name and only until you sent the email did you realize that it was the wrong person. I wouldn't sweat it given the circumstances regardless, hope all turns out well! good luck

I did this when I interviewed a while back. It wasn't a huge deal at all, especially at a bulge bracket. So many people have the same name and the naming conventions can get tricky if people have the same name. Some do numbers, some do middle initial, etc.

I think I sent an email to the wrong guy and he just followed up and said "hey you've got the wrong guy, here is the email you want" and that was that.

I wouldn't sweat it.
