SF influence on NY hiring?
I will be entering Bschool in NYC in the fall, and looking to secure a BB summer in 2009. I'm living in SF until July/August, and wondering if it would be worth my time to try having informational interviews with people out here. Through family and other connections, I could probably get in with some VPs/MDs, but I don't want to waste their or my time. Would they be able to help get me an interview in NY next January? Would it be worth it anyway, just to build my network (i.e. they could at least introduce me to people in NY)?
It couldn't hurt, the bigger the network you have the better
I guess that's true. Any perspective on the first part of the question? Can an SF VP/MD directly get me an interview in NYC?
Yes, a VP/MD can get you an interview in just about any city (given that they like you)
Could be tricky. Meeting with folks in SF would imply you're interested in being out there vs. NY.
