Shaved Head = inappropriate?

This may be a really stupid question but I did a search and found no answers....

I recently shaved my head (not with a razor...with a number 2 or whatever) and I was wondering if this haircut is inappropriate for an analyst. I have signed with a BB to start full-time this summer, and I would love to keep my hair the way it is (don't need to do anything to it in the morning, and call me cheap but I save $50 a month bc I can do this myself). I had a normal haircut when I interviewed, so I'm wondering if I should go back to that style before I start. Any serious advice welcome. Cheers.

So you got a job with a BB [congrats]...and you are worried about $50/mo. ??

Spend an extra week looking for an apartment that is $50 cheaper and put that $50 towards getting a haircut. If you like your head shaved because it is a style preference - then keep it shaved. If you are doing it to save money, then good luck. I wouldn't repeat that to any analyst in the bullpen; people on this forum talk about buying thousand dollar watches. I am likely more frugal than most of the people on this forum, but I think your desire to save $50/mo by shaving your head is too parsimonious.

Lol the extra $50 a month is an added bonus, certainly not my main motivation for doing it in the first place.

I'm definitely not doing it to stand out, its really just for the convenience. I'm going to stick with it and see how it goes. If someone says something I'll grow it back, but after reading everyone's advice I don't think it will be an issue. Thanks everyone.

This guy used the word "parsimonious" in context of shaving one's head...

I would grow it back. It really should not matter but I think they may see you as someone trying to be different. I would look as professional as you can, just my opinion. I have worked alongside alot of guys who hair was shaved pretty short, however they were clearly going bald and this was the best option.

Standing out as an analyst because of your work. Not because of your hair styly. They may see your as someone who likes to go against the grain, and that, more times than not, just does hold well for your future endeavours.

Anyway, hope this helps somewhat! Enjoy the look while it lasts!

I met 3 or 4 analysts/associates that were shaved bald. If you come in that way and that's your look - don't sweat it. If youre cool with it, no one will care after a week.

People make way too big a deal with having to conform 100%... everyone has their thing.

You don't have anything to worry about. If I looked any good with a shaved head, I would shave it in an instant just for how convenient it is.

It wouldn't hurt to keep it neat, though. I've been told to cut my hair twice (once by an MD, once by an associate -- both times it was hilarious), so people do care/notice. My hair is nowhere near a number 2, and in all fairness it did look like sh*t when they asked me to cut it (I'd just been too busy to do anything about it).

I personally have a preference for long hair, but I'm sure it's not a firing offense to have a hairstyle that your associates or VPs or MDs don't like.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter. We have an ex-military guy whose head is completely bald. People joke about it, but certainly no one cares. I'd be a lot more worried about a mustache or a beard than I would a shaved head. Of course, if it is going to make you nervous every time you meet someone or show your face to a new co-worker / client, it probably isn't worth it.

As for the money, $50 is $50. Don't let other people tell you how to spend your money or what is a good deal. This is entirely up to you. Being an analyst at an investment bank doesn't mean you'll be rolling in the dough by any means. Besides, until your bonus comes at the end of your first year, you're just a regular guy making $60k in NYC.
