Should I transfer from a non-target (Baylor) to a target?

Hey guys, I wondering if I should transfer from a non-target (Baylor) to a target school such as Cornell ILR, UNC, Vanderbilt, or UT (Econ). I’m willing to work at either NYC or Houston but I’m not sure how good Baylor’s placement is for Investment Banking. I heard SMU, TAMU, and UT place more people into investment banking in Houston than Baylor. I would greatly appreciate a response regarding this.

Baylor undergrad here....

You are correct. We didn't (and still don't) place very many students into IB. I've seen a handful when I fiddled around on LinkedIn, but those kids were probably either Business Fellows or high GPA Finance/Econ majors that knew about IB going into school.

UT would be your best bet if you want to finish your undergrad in Texas. If you want to target Houston IB, then Rice or UT undergrad will get you there pretty equally, assuming you're a strong candidate.

"BigSpoon" Do Baylor undergrads place well into consulting or anything else requiring a finance degree? Also if I were to transfer into UT, does it matter if I do econ or go into McCombs?

They do not, as far as I know. I believe there is a push to get more "prestigious" jobs and companies to come on campus to recruit. For example, my SIL who recently graduated had a close friend who interviewed with McKinsey. McK never recruited on-campus when I was there, so that seems to be a step in the right direction. Accenture MC and TC recruits pretty heavily, but not ACN Strat as far as I know...

It's a far cry from the on campus recruiting that McCombs and even Mays have for their undergrads, but it's trending in the right direction after the completion of the new business building in 2016.

Would you stay if you were in my position or try to transfer into another Texas school?

It seems as there is an unclear opinion about whether Baylor places well into banking or not. Some people claim that Baylor places well while some say they don't place at all.

I just went through the transfer process, so I can shed some light on what I found out. 1. If I'm not mistaken, UT-McCombs is super competitive for transfers, so I would advise against that. 2. Good schools that I found had decent acceptance rates were Vandy, Georgetown, Cornell (not Dyson), Notre Dame, and WashU Olin (met with an admissions rep, she explained that quant background is essential for transfers). 3. Start networking that summer once you find out where you are going- you are starting at ground zero in regards to that alumni base. Best of luck!

Would you say it’s not worth transferring to UT Econ since getting into McCombs as an external transfer is difficult? Are the OCR opportunities the same for McCombs and Econ majors?

Little late but I can vouch for TAMU placing several kids in NYC every year and a decent amount in Houston
