Social network at bulge bracket banks

Multiple people have told me that aside from the actual work experience and all the things you learn, the best thing about working at a bulge bracket bank is the social network you form.

How important is this network, both professionally and socially? I work for a firm where there are very few people in my age group, and there aren't too many who went to a similar school as I did. I feel like I'm missing out by not working for a BB in NYC.

In my experience, the social network and friends I made from being part of an official summer analyst program was one of the best parts of the job. It's definitely a great experience if you're moving to a new city since you get to meet fellow fun and bright people your age to chill out with. Also networking and relationships are extremely important in this industry, so yeah it definitely helps professionally.
