I'm at a target and I cannot figure out how people get summer 2025 sophomore internships. Do they just cold email tons of alumni asking for internships? I'm currently interviewing for summer 2025 but there are very few opportunities taking sophomores and I feel like my time is better spent recruiting for 2026.

Many sophomore summer jobs are nepo. Write (at least) 1,000 emails over winter break, leave them in your drafts folder, send them out starting in the second week of January. This internship is a great way to get exposure to what you want to do post IB (asssuming IB MD is not your end goal).
You need to email firms. A thousand is good - they will take on paid sophomore interns if competent and motivated. Check on LinkedIn to see if they had interns for 2024 and reach out to them to get connected if possible, or look at current juniors at ur schoo
