Sophomore Summer - How many interviews to expect?

I am a sophomore at a target with an ok gpa (3.6). However, I have had very little luck finding an internship for this summer. I got interviews with a PE firm, hedge fund, and MM bank, but I did not receive any offers. Right now my plan is to take classes over the summer and boost my gpa to 3.7 which is pretty feasible since I have a lot of easy requirements left to take.

My question is how much of my job search difficulty was because I am a sophomore. Did that play a big role in the fact that I didn't get many interviews or offers? Should I expect to fare better next year?

I am just pretty discouraged right now and trying to think ahead.

Thanks.

Ok I will just focus on cold calling regional boutiques then.

Hypothetically, if I am not able to land anything this summer how much will it effect me during junior year recruiting?

Ask the interviewers for feedback (why you didn't get the internship), which would be helpful in pinpointing any of your weaknesses (besides being a sophomore).

I have a part time internship at a boutique merchant bank that I am working at during the school year. However, the work is not that applicable to IB (a lot of administrative work). If I do not find anything I will probably just keep with this since I can at least put it on my resume. I have never had problems with interviews before, but I will ask for some feedback from the firms I interviewed with to pinpoint some problems.

It's not impossible as a sophomore. Your GPA is more than fine, what do you have in terms of ECs? Solutions: network. Call back your interviewers and ask for feedback on how you can improve. Read the regional boutiques thread on here and get yourself something outside the BB. There is still time.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

Hey guys,

So as it turns out, I was actually offered a summer position at the hedge fund today. I guess it just took them a couple of weeks to go through all of the candidates.

With this change in events, I have a new question.

How would a back office summer position at a very well known hedge fund look for IB recruiting my junior year. Here are my thoughts:

Pros: -It is a paid position (helps with living expenses for the summer) -It is a well known firm (good to have on my resume) -It shows my interest in finance

Cons: -It is back office and the skills are not directly relatable to banking

Any input would be appreciated.
