Sophomore Year Internship - Rankings?

can someone rank these possible sophomore year internships in terms of what would be most valuable for that coveted junior year IBD internship?

ER at a BB ER at a research company like Morningstar IBD at a boutique grunt work at Hedge Fund/PE

not sure what position is offered in HF/PE, but i have some friends and distant family who i can contact about internships. granted, these will be MM places, im not talking KKR and TPG here. i have a friend whos my age working at his cousins hedge fund..but i think hes just doing bitch work, not really sure.

thanks

even though it's at a boutique and you don't get the brand name bank on your resume, i think the IBD experience is more relevant if you're pursuing IBD in the future as well. sure if you do ER you get to go to a BB, but you'll pick up different skills and personally i'm not a fan of research. grunt work just never sounds appealing and the people interviewing you next summer will pretty much be able to see you did gruntwork

I second that. Althopugh, also keep in mind that the buyside option does not look too bad either. Granted, it is not relevant to IB, but it a) lets you entwork in a sector you'll be looking to parachute into once your IB stint is over and b) depending on the place you may be able to land another inetrnship and sidetrack the IB route. This is a high risk approach thougha nd highly dependant on the shop your internship offer is from. Do a lot more research if this route sounds tempting. good luck.

Wondering what my chances of getting a sophomore program position or possible summer analyst position in 2008: Soph at NYU Stern, 4.0, 800 math SAT II 36 math ACT Majors: Finance, Accounting Minor: Graduate Financial Math Courses Previous experience:

RBC Dain Rauscher summer analyst in fee based brokerage

1 Billion dollar hedge fund analyst

Accounting intern

Research analyst for Lifetime Fitness

I also have pretty good connections at Bear, Goldman, Merrill, and a few other places

um, people like you need to leave this board unless youre providing advice. some of us need genuine help landing IBD internships/jobs. obviously you have a good chance.

but looking at your information, is it a good idea to put SAT II Math instead of SAT Math on your resume? on my resume i have my SAT Verbal, Math, and Writing scores (730/750/700), but my SAT II Math IIc score is 790 but i never put it on... should i bother with it?

Hey sorry it was MAth 2 score on the SAT II. Forgot that little bit on there. I would definately agree about Math I on the SAT IIs. It is like 6th grade stuff. I was being serious though. I am unsure if I do have a chance at the best banks. I think I have a pretty good one, but one can never be too sure.

What do you think the likelihood of this is? I did it for an internship as a freshman at RBC but I am not sure if it will fly next year if I want one at a top bank. I go to a good school and have good connections, but I am still unsure.
