Lateraled from full time S&T at a BB to a well regarded IB boutique as an analyst. Was not at all easy. I also come from a non target, so not a lot of connections to work with initially. Took about a year of networking, prepping, and interviewing to finally get an offer. It was a seriously disheartening process at times, and I contemplated giving up at several points. It is possible, but judging by your situation, you will have to work your ass off just like I did. Have a compelling story, learn how to be personable, and know the technical aspects cold. Most people will not give you a shot, and the ones who do like you often times don’t have an opening. A lot of it is getting lucky honestly. Cast a wide net and grind it out for a while

thank you for your perspective, i had about 10 solid IB interviews ( SA 2021, and came from networking my ass off) which i  failed to convert, but am really grateful that i got a S&T offer so i took it (SA 2021). But having said that I do want to do IB and having no prior IB experience how would you say I can use that experience to get into IB, what are some skills that are tranfesrabble to IB. I have done a wide range of courses and casestudies

i will be covering equity desk. My goal isnt a BB its to land at a good MM since i know BB will be hard asf coming from non-target and low gpa (3.3).

also lateralled from s&t to IB at a BB. Have worked in s&t for 4 years, was early promoted and was in my final year of asso. Internal transferred to IB Cut me back to asso 1. Also took me 1 year, super challenging process. Interviewed at several BB before finally landing an offer internally

Also OP, your respective S&T desk can matter quite a bit in this process. If you have a good story to tell you can sell almost anything, but it is much harder to convince people that you want to switch to M&A from say, vanilla rates flow, than it is to switch from high yield research to restructuring for example. Certain transitions are more seamless in that way. A big component of many of the interviews and networking calls I had was explaining the relevant skills for a banking role I had built
