Struggling in retirement

Posting anonymously here. Retired about 6 months ago, MD at BB for more than 22 years.

Have always enjoyed writing and am thinking about writing a newsletter as a fun way to stay busy and keep up with the markets. Obviously there are thousands of newsletters/sites in the space.

What do none of them currently have/focus on that you wish they did? Any suggestions? What is not already out there that you'd want?

Thank you!

I think you could tremendously leverage your IB experience to describe the specific rationale behind the deal, hypothetical markets the acquirer may be pursuing with the acquisition, alternate scenario of acquiring companies that strategically made more sense, industry forecast, and any other thoughts about what this deal means.

A lot of newsletters solely tell you the deal and the finances behind it, but not the implications for the company / industry moving forward.

Things I always enjoy talking to old heads about.

- History - war stories/boardroom drama, the way things when they were coming up, stories from the inside during pivotal events - 9/11, 2008 and the like. Think this would really resonate. Haven't seen much content like this other than in random books

- Had a really cool conversation with an old banker who did the IPO for one of the trillion dollar tech companies back in the day. Was really cool to hear the founder's (absolute legend) vision for the company, thoughts on strategy and the industry. I've always enjoyed interviews and panels with successful founders

- Career advice - lucky to have good mentors now but really struggled in the early days of transitioning from desk jockey to the client side. What works, what doesn't, rules of play, approach, that kind of thing
