Suited Assessments Tips - Logical Reasoning
Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the Suited logical reasoning assessment. I'm not familiar with the format but believe it presents pairs of axioms/statements from which you have to assess if a given scenario is always true, sometimes true, or never true.
I've looked into some logical reasoning laws (e.g. contrapositives) but am wondering if anyone has any advice on preparing for such tests in general?
Thank you!
I did the Suited and was able to finish all of the questions for logical reasoning. If you know the logical proofs, it should be fairly easy. Start with learning what a contrapositive is. It's basically the only logical equivalent of a statement. Anything else is either false or uncertain.
Let's take the statement if a-> b. The only true equivalent statement is if not b-> not a. An example might be helpful. Take the statement: If you've been to the White House, you've been to Washington DC. a is going to White House, and b is having been in Washington DC. If not b-> not a would be if you haven't been to Washington DC, you haven't been to the White House. This is an unequivocally true statement.
If b->a is uncertain. Let's use the Washington DC example again. The equivalent would be if you've been to washington DC, you've been to the White House. This statement is uncertain because you could go to Washington DC and visit the White House, but you also may not.
The key logical rules to know when given a statement in the if a-> b format:
Either b or not a= True
If not b-> not a= True
If b-> a= Uncertain
If not a-> not b= Uncertain
If a-> not b= False
If not b-> a= False
Try running through these rules using the Washington DC example and that should make it more clear. If you're able to identify the a and b of the original statement and see which rule the sub statement falls under, you should be able to do the questions quickly. This was how I finished all 40 questions in the low time limit. Granted, you probably don't need to even finish the test, as most people won't. I also don't think the test matters at all because I'm pretty sure I aced it and still never got an interview at William Blair, which used it. People told me in their interview invite it said to finish the test if they hadn't already, indicating that Suited wasn't used for making applicant decisions. Kinda sucks because I prepared for it and did really well.
Thank you so much for your detailed response. I take issue with the philosophy behind such assessments themselves, case in point your situation. Sorry to hear about WB, but hope other processes went better!
