Suits...

Hey guys,

Quick question, does anyone know anything about Jos A Bank? I've never been there but heard they are having great clearances on suits...before I make the drive I'm wondering if anyone knows whether their suits are acceptable quality for analysts. No need for comment from those who spend $2000 on a suit, I'm just looking for acceptable suits, not trying to be flashy. Thanks for any input.

If I were you, I'd spend $300 for a mid range suit on sale at Macy's (Calvin Klien, Kenneth Cole), rather than Jos A Bank. I believe they are in that range right?

Go see Leonard Longsdale. Tell him Dan Bush sent you. You should be able to pick up a basic suit for $2500. Dont go cheap. A cheap suit wont last. Get quality that will last.

Jimbodan, how did you find a tailor to make a suit to fit your massive chest and arms? must get pricey.

thats one of the problems. i went for a 50" dunhill off the rack for a reasonable $600. I then took it to a tailor who just hacked the entire suit far beyond use. when put it on the left lapel would sit a good inch below the right and the pants would also sit at an angle -it was just a mess. so i took a 600$ hit and had my dad buy me a quality suit for a birthday present.

JosABank has a signature line that runs from $700-800, but you can often get them on sale for $300-350. Pretty good buy if you can get to the store at the right time.

Get your measurements and have a look on ebay. You could get an Oxxford, Cornelliani, Canali, etc for $300. Some will be NWT, NWOT, or gently used, but you will be getting a FAR superior suit.

Don't be so closed minded on the $2500 remark. You don't have to spend a million bucks to look like it.

I had a Jos. A Bank suit. I found the material somewhat cheap, but it was my first suit.

I just picked up a Joseph Aboud suit on sale at Macy's for $400. Much better quality. I'm sure they will have some sort of President's day sale coming up.

Gommininever heard of leonard longsdale

he is a bespoke maker out of NYC. he makes a suit a la huntsman, if that means anything -very stiff, just all around british.

im sure anyone who has met leonard logsdail and spent 5k per suit would most likely remember his name.

As far as Jos A Bank they are geared more towards younger people like us so you can pick up a great plain navy or charcoal suit for a couple hundred bucks and your good to go!

try to look for h&m suits man collection. they are made in italy and the selections are pretty good in quality.

What's a good amount of shirts and suits to have for a banking wardrobe? I've yet to start working, so I was wondering...

10 Shirts 10 Ties 4 Suits

Vary your shirts by cutaway, spread, point collars Ties - colors, patterns Suits - Get one khaki/ivory for Fridays, one navy, one charcoal, one brown

2 black pairs of shoes, 2 brown, 1 merlot/chilli

Thats a great baseline, after that its sporadic.

Seriously? 4 suits? I thought dress is pretty much business casual, and suits are only really worn for client meetings? I was thinking 2 would be more than sufficient, at least during year 1.

Also, not to change the subject, but has anyone had custom-made suits made for cheap by oriental tailors, either in NYC or abroad? Any opinions/names to check out?

I have heard from several people that the suits and custom made shirts from Joe Hemrajani at www.mytailor.com are top notch. I was just measured recently and ordered 2 shirts and will get them in approx. 1.5 months. I'm expecting great quality.
