Summer Analysts - is your firm giving you a laptop?

I am starting work in a few weeks in Guggenheim's SA program, and they have told us that are current laptops are okay. I was wondering if any firms on the street are actually supplying their internship class with laptops?

It depends on how employees at the bank are supposed to connect to the bank's network. If they are using virtualization software, then any laptop will do. If they want more privacy such that they can separate personal laptop use from work laptop, they will provide you with a laptop.

Either way, if you can't afford a laptop, let them know and they will definitely provide you with one (although it will be a shitty one).

Will update my computer soon and leave Incognito so I will disappear forever. How did I achieve Neanderthal by trolling? Some people are after me so need to close account for safety.

I'm using my mac + 1 external monitor. I know PC + 2 external monitors are recommended, but the way I see it, we're going to go thru 1 week training and 4 weeks on the job. No way (at least at my BB) I get staffed onto a live deal or work on any model that's actually going to clients. I have Windows Bootcamp on my Mac though, so I'd suggest getting that if you don't want to buy a new laptop

I'm also on mac running one external monitor with an external keyboard and mouse. Honestly, with a virtual windows desktop (bootcamp, parallels, etc) it's not all that bad. Excel alt shortcuts work fine, and you can save files through your normal file management system.

have a feeling that BBs are just being lazy instead of cheaping out, still bad on their part - how is the kid with a shitbox 11 inch laptop from 2003 supposed to get a return offer?

You can always buy a new one... They aren't that expensive given how much you will make during the summer.

I'll be fine but not every kid is privileged enough to just "buy a new one" - last time I checked, your paycheck doesn't hit until after you start working. Some banks also got rid of relocation bonus.
