Tattoos in high finance?

Just to switch things up, I wanted to hear everyone’s opinion on tattoos in the community. Personally, I’m a huge fan of tattoos. An artistic full sleeve is a thing of beauty to me. There are some insane artists out there that can literally recreate the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel on your body. However, I understand that tattoos are still somewhat frowned upon in the professional community - especially one as long-standing as finance. What are your guys thoughts? Are/should tattoos be a bad look in high finance?

let me put it this way, until this day I have not seen any tattoos that were visible. I am sure people in finance do have tattoos, just not on their necks, hands, or faces.

Personally, I like tattoos but never had the guts to go for it. I am not the guy who commits to something for a longer time.

worked at an EB during my analyst days and my md had full sleeves. He also generated the highest fees if that says anything.

I actually find people in finance who are heavily covered in tattoos to be quite intelligent (ironic I know, since some of you may think that tattoos are an irrational decision). But from my experience, the finance guys with lots of tats are more passionate about finance than your typical finance bro...don’t know why. If anyone has the same experience, I’d like to know why

Just from my observation personally...

Ya, it's the worst thing in the world. I don't understand how society thinks it's ok to evolve into a world that allows for more artistic and emotional expression and freedom. We should totally go back to the days where tattoos meant prison and being muscular meant being a man. Retard.

Well, how are real outlaws (who don't work in accounting and IT) supposed to express themselves now with a bunch of tattooed yuppies crowding the planet with their $2,000 Macs at the coffee shop?? I'll tell you how...face tattoos.....a sad externality of yuppies getting sleeves.. You gotta take it to the next level.

...maybe the thing that people were previously trying to express with tattoos is a "F@%k you to the world!".....maybe they weren't worried about career prospects or what anyone thought.....they got the tattoos not because tattoos were social norms but exactly because they weren't......the art of tattooing has improved immensely in the last ten years, but sadly with that improvement, it has lost it's original soul.

Having a tattoo or sleeves used to mean something. Now, it's just a pretty picture on your arm..

I hope that what I'm about to say opens your eyes to something that I think you should appreciate.

What you're essentially saying is that everything in this world that originally symbolized something and evolved into something else has lost its original soul. That's equivalent to saying, women should continue to have no rights, minorities should continue to be minorities, gays should be looked disgracefully upon and worse, Sure, these examples are at a greater scale but they all have one thing in common to what you're suggesting: everything that has evolved has lots it's original soul.

I don't think that's how you should look at things. I think it's beautiful that things in general have evolved for the better. Tattoos once meant criminality, now they also allow individuals to express themselves in a different way.

I think you need to appreciate how great evolution and growth is. Just my 2 cents, dude.
