The Reddit IPO Will Be a Great Tragedy For Prolific Consumers of Amateur Adult Content
Mods - I am serious and trying to go about this in non-explicit language and with good taste. This is not a troll and I'm not trying to be outwardly crude. Please try and let adults have an adult discussion here. If someone runs and cries because talk of adult content is triggering, then I can put a trigger warning up top of my post to make you guys feel better and less compelled to remove it.
NOW, the problem with Reddit going public is that Reddit is one of the last bastions of free, user-submitted, amateur erotic content. The good stuff that they took off of PornHub once Bill Ackman came in like a dork wad and got all high and mighty about amateur adult content. I'm talking about a grainy user-submitted video of an amateur dominatrix kicking her boyfriend in the nads 10 times straight while wearing a Hillary Clinton mask. In fact, Reddit is so prolific in this regard, it would surprise me if there weren't an entire subreddit for amatuer women kicking their significant others in the nads 10 times while wearing a Clinton mask.
I leverage this functionality of reddit on a daily basis and it has provided me with safe, happy, free fapping for the better part of my adult life. In fact, there are some fetishes that are SO specific, it is hard to find content anywhere else besides reddit, unless you want to go on a $100/session OnlyFans spree to find your sought after Fap Fuel.
Once Reddit goes public, there is ZERO chance that user-submitted adult content remains on the website for long. I believe that nearly all NSFW content will be removed, and the ability of reddit users to moderate their own subreddit threads will be removed from them. I'm not some free speech absolutist either, I don't really care whether or not I can say offensive political stuff online without repercussions. But I am an avid fapper and I am unsure how I will fap off once Reddit's NSFW communities get donkey punched by some dork like Bill Ackman talking about "hurrrr de durrrrr, ban the Fap Fuel!". I feel like I'm in an all out war with the shareholder class elites for freedom to fap my little putz to whatever fap fuel I damn well please, and the only way I know how to resist is to fap more.
Does anyone else disagree? Is there any possibility that Reddit's content is not severely restricted / gate-kept post-IPO?
dude, I feel like this might belong on reddit or something, not WSO
*Faps off on you*
Wus good bro?
Unfortunately, that adult content that is so prominent on reddit is similar to that of a huge liability.
Least horny Reddit porn addict
Least degenerate reddit user
I'd worry more about the fact that you have fetishes that can only be found in obscure parts of the internet...
IMHO, I believe porn (all types of it - from amateur Reddit users to verified stars) is a net negative to society and creates long term, negative implications for the individual and their relationships. I think that if this does happen, it will be a good thing.
Bro Reddit doesn't have a monopoly on this....there are a billion sites out there with such content now with 10x the content today that there was probably 2yrs ago. In 2yrs from now as AI becomes a bigger part of it it will literally a 100x delta in content vs. pre Covid. You will be fine lol
You may need to find other such sites, but whatever your extreme fetish I guarantee Reddit is not the only place you'll find it. Too many degens from everywhere in the world so even the weird niches would now have millions if not 10s of millions of folks which makes them big enough for people to make money off of (i.e. more content)
Gotta agree with guy above tho -- it's odd that these fetishes you have are so extreme that they can only be found in the dark corners of the net. Gotta normalize bud, there's kinkiness and then just stuff that is pure mind-rot that you will be happy you got rid of
Freaky ass ninja ima 69 god, freaky ass ninja ima 69 god
it is never too late to repent brother
No such luck, even the catholic priests wont touch my dingus. I'm confined to Gone Wild subreddits thus.
Good, quit being a degenerate and go outside. Porn addiction rots your brain (great thread - RIP Goldie). It destroys your dopamine receptors ability to function properly and robs people of intrinsic motivation by putting them into a stupor (also causes straight up erectile disfunction), distorts your ability to interact with the opposite sex properly (especially if you're exposed as a child), damages romantic relationships, and promotes sexual abuse material while enabling easy monetization for human trafficking. I hope Reddit's porn culture gets nuked. Small step to the internet becoming better and it's unquestionably a good thing for a mainstream website like Reddit to be free of it.
Wait a minute, Goldie died? Or his account just got suspended? I've been on here longer than this account, I just used a burner for this thread for obvious reasons.
Also, wasn't he like a serial drunk driver and heroin sniffer? Feels like there were other vices besides porn that may have been at issue there. Reminds me of the Chris Rock bit about how his brother smokes crack but wont eat meat.
No he's not dead, just left WSO permanently over the new moderation/censorship practices. Miss his banter. Being a victim of once vice doesn't make pointing out another wrong, and porn is much more ubiquitous and I'd argue net negative to society over the long-term because of it.
It doesn't sound like you like adult content...
Oh wow.
Hello FBI? Yes this comment right here
Holy moly the mods deleted my comment calling out all the negative effects of porn - not even a notification or message about why/how it violated any rules.
Good 'ol Goldie's thread for the OP who clearly needs it - QUIT PORN
WallStreetOasis.com this is the type of degeneracy this site protects/embraces now? Really great look...
I miss Goldie he had so many good posts like the one where he talked about taking benzos and bars. Takes me back to the old days on this site.
I wish that WSO hadn't messed with his account so we could still go back and look at his posts through his profile. Unfortunately you just get the access denied screen if you try.
I'm for the nationwide ban of pornography. If we can't get that, then the media companies' greed leading to its deletion will have to do for now.
I don't like porn either, but how would you propose that porn is banned without a 1st amendment violation?
A porn ban is not a 1st amendment violation. Before Stanley v. Georgia, states had laws against porn viewing and possession. The Supreme Court case was a bad ruling made by the same liberal judges that allowed Roe v. Wade. The Miller Test should apply to porn in general as it provides no societal value.
There's 0 chance this happens due to 1st amendment. Even then, we have VPNs. This is a pipe dream, no pun intended
FYI -- Virginia 'banned' it but people just migrated off the main sites (i.e. the hub) to less policed sites. Net effect is not even 0, it's negative because now little Sammy who would have discovered vanilla stuff on the hub at age 13 is now watching some bdsm material in a random site
This is both highly unlikely to instate legally nationwide and impossible to enforce even if it was. It sucks but porn is not remotely a Top 5 or even Top 10 problem in the US so I can't imagine it even musters enough political will to get us anywhere near there (except for banning the child / nonconsensual stuff which we already have, thank god)
This is totally wrong. Pornography is one of the leading issues in American society today. It's destroying young men, it's destroying relationships with women, it's contributing to the reduction in the birth rate. It's an atrocious human tragedy. It's corrosive to a man's soul.
As to the efficacy of the bans, it's not about whether or not pornography can be totally stopped (do we totally stop murder with bans on murder?). It's about reducing its ubiquity and helping men on the margins who use it but aren't ultra-motivated to quit using it. Extremely motivated people will find ways around the bans. It's also about making it much more difficult for children to access it so that their consciences aren't seared from childhood. It's about stigmatizing the behavior so people aren't consumed with the idea that what they're doing is a good thing and a "right."
Also, porn is absolutely NOT a speech issue. Only deranged leftists and soulless libertarians believe that having sex on camera is a First Amendment issue. Not a single Founding Father would have argued that public sex is a speech issue. Not one of them. The courts have been wrong--objectively wrong--about this issue in the past and they can be reversed. And if the courts continue to rule in favor of porn as speech the states should ignore the rulings.
So, interestingly, this is part of why Tumblr imploded and why it sold for next to nothing last time it traded.
Because Tumblr had too much NSFW? Or because mgmt tried to wipe it free of NSWF(which killed user base)?
Both. They were having legal risk and being discriminated against because the majority (or a very sizeable minority) of their content was user-generated/curated pornography. To make themselves more attractive to investors they decided to nuke all of it and suddenly their site's web traffic and community engagement metrics plummeted. Reddit faces a similar risk, not to mention they've had their shares of sex trafficking/minor abuse scandals tied to various subreddits including ones mods/admins participated in or intentionally turned a blind eye to.
Yes I am very aware. I used to fap off to Tumblr regularly before it got acid washed and ran into the ground. I am precisely afraid of the exact same trajectory for reddit.
So many puritans on here think banning porn will work. How did banning alcohol or marijuana work?
It's a personal responsibility issue, not the government's.
Yeah it’s hilarious, we have so many comps. Prostitution is ‘illegal’ but probably a third of the guys I know have visited one (usually comes out when they are drunk). Might even be more
Even with hard drugs, I don't use but I know exactly who I'd go to if I wanted to get some (not the dealer but someone who's bought from those dealers). I'm sure virtually everyone under the age of 30 on this forum would the say the same
no one is arguing that it’s good for you, it’s not. But it’s also not something that can be controlled. Hard enough to control the world of atoms (alcohol, weed), impossible on the world of bits
