The Value of OCR

I’m an Incoming transfer to a target in the spring but OCR for top IB will be done by then. I have a strong resume (PM if interested) and am beginning networking Georgetown alumni and very connected people my parents know (I know I’m a bit late for that). How big of a loss is not doing OCR? Is OCR the real value of a target and thus will it be a waste to attend a target for recruiting purposes since I won’t be able to do OCR?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about the value of OCR (On-Campus Recruiting) and its impact:

  1. Overrated Aspect: OCR is often considered overrated. Many users have noted that the real value of a target school lies more in the network and connections rather than the OCR itself. For example, one user mentioned that banks coming to campus didn't significantly impact their recruiting process. Instead, it was more about how resume drops from the school were treated at the firm and the set number of interview seats for the school.

  2. Accelerated Recruiting: Recruiting has become so accelerated that by the time OCR is available, many processes have already started or even finished. This means that the firms most people at target schools are interested in might not be available through OCR by the time you transfer.

  3. Networking Importance: Networking with alumni and leveraging personal connections can be more valuable than OCR. Many users have found that networking with alumni was much more beneficial than relying solely on OCR. Clubs and personal connections often play a significant role in securing internships and offers.

  4. Target School Benefits: While OCR is a benefit of attending a target school, it's not the only one. The overall environment, resources, and network at a target school can still provide significant advantages even if you miss the OCR window.

  5. Competition: Even at target schools, the competition is fierce. For example, at schools like Harvard, hundreds of highly qualified students compete for a limited number of spots, making the process challenging regardless of OCR.

In summary, while missing OCR might seem like a disadvantage, the real value of a target school lies in its network and the opportunities it provides beyond just OCR. Leveraging alumni connections and personal networks can still make attending a target school worthwhile for recruiting purposes.

I see OCR as a bunch of banks holding on-campus information sessions, coffee chats, networking events, dinner events, handshake application postings, etc. A good number of banks have already visited target schools to recruit. You still need to network with alumni to maximize your chances of an interview.

No. Again bro stop asking all these questions that won’t help u. Ur situation is what it is just network and you’ll be fine

The benefit of a target school is the alumni network. The benefit for the info sessions is that the on-campus recruiting team will come visit and give you their contact information. Again, you can network with alumni.
