Thinking about changing my major - Input appreciated
I'm a junior neuroscience major at a semi-target going for an IB internship this summer. I struck out on one superday so far, but have a few more in the pipeline from mid-January to early Febuary - all based out of San Francisco with a healthcare or tech emphasis. I also have two soft offers from local VCs. Before Winter semester starts, I'm thinking of switching my major from Neuroscience to Genetics. My rational is this:
1. Genetics does not require O-chem or Biochem, traditionally murderous classes that could sack my GPA. Also, there are less classes to take overall so I can cut down on my per semester class load, giving me more time for internships, networking, and extracurriculars.
2. Through Genetics I can take the business track, which opens up business classes to me which are not usually available to non-business students.
3. Genetics classes are more pertinent to the science behind drugs developed by bio-techs (which is the focus of the healthcare IB groups I'm interviewing with).
4. I have already taken many of the classes for Genetics, and switching while still in my Junior year would have no affect on my graduation date.
So my question for you guys is this - Does genetics have any less-prestige than neuroscience in the eyes of a financial services professional? The same? More? Are they both meaningless without relevant experience? The two main reasons I am hesitant to switch is, first, because I have a research background in neuroscience, and second, because a lot of my contacts have pulled for me based in no small part on the fact that neuroscience is an academically rigorous major.
Any input you all could provide on this would be incredibly helpful.

I knew a friend transitioned from a neuroscience background into healthcare consulting after college, and then into IB after MBA. Consulting might be easier for you after college.
Sounds like you answered your own question. Is genetics significantly easier than neuroscience? Honestly, if someone told me either of those majors I would assume they are both difficult. If you are worried about people's perception, I do not think you should be as concerned. Also, I am not in IB and still in college, but it doesn't sound like you would have an advantage doing neuroscience, so why stress yourself out over the more rigorous courses. Just my 2 cents.
