those summer leadership programs

jw if there is any marginal benefit of attending these? Are these things you would list on your resume? and is it better to have more? I already got accepted into one, but if I am accepted into one or two more, should I attend those as well? Does it look weird to list like 2~3 different summer leadership programs in one summer.

Any and every way to include a big, reputable financial services' firm name on your resume can only help you. Besides, travel and expenses are paid for and it's just a one week(end) spot.

sshiah thanks for your input to the forum...the monster DLP was useless? should I not go then? I am supposed to attend their program this august...did you gain anything at all, in any way no matter how small

also I hear they give away scholarships or awards or sth like that....that should be pretty useful

please I would appreciate it if you could elaborate on the usefulness or uselessness of the program if you don't mind/have the time...

thanks!

monster DLP is pretty much completely irrelevant if you wanna do banking, i felt like it was more about fun than business, and depending on the employers that are gonna be there, the companies you are gonna get to network with might or might not be of interest to you. the one i went to had companies like target... the most impressive name that was SUPPOSED to be there was PwC (but they didn't show). they might raffle away some "scholarship" or whatever, but i dont think it's very significant. they do have a little workshop on how to answer interview questions, but i thought it was way too simple for me and nothing i didnt already learn on my own.

went to monsterdlp event. I don't think anything is irrelevant when it comes to all these leadership and networking programs. I have the monsterdlp program on my resume and i met some amazing people that i haven't lost contact with till today.

It's up to you, i know a couple people that got bloomberg jobs from the career fair at the event. For me, the value of meeting people is a lot because you never know who you might meet.

wow...great then

as far as the scholarships go, how do they organize that...is it based on your resume or is it by pure luck...i.e., do they do a lottery or sth of that sorts?

nah scholarships are like $500 or $1000, usually lottery picks. they fact is that most of the companies there usually send their analyst equivalent to the place so it's not like your going to see a top recruiter but getting a contact is better than none. Once you identify a company your interested in, meet guys that work there who are at the DLP event and network, collect emails and start pounding them.

they don't want to make the DLP a job fair but rather a team building, leadership and networking affair. anything that results from there is based on the individual. such a great night, if your into the booze scene. amazing ladies too
