Thoughts on convertibles investment banking?
A friend of mine is interning in this group at a BB - one of the smartest I know - what exactly does this group do? What is day to day work like (modeling?) and is it a decent alternative to traditional coverage/M&A? Exits/lifestyle?
From the limited information provided I would assume he’s on the convertible bond (CB) origination desk. Usually within ECM. Wlb better than M&A/coverage. As far as I know, no modeling.
He could also be on the CB trading desk. They trade CB’s and that could get technical. Or he could be in CB sales. If you can provide more info I can tell you more, though I’ve never heard of convertibles investment banking so I can be talking nonsense rn
Yes pretty sure ECM - i think it’s just grouped in with IB at the bank?
ECM is IB
Yes agreed . Was just referencing that some banks separate it (e.g. MS Cap Markets)
