Time Off as an Unpaid Intern?

I'm currently in the middle of a 10-week unpaid internship at a boutique, working around 10 hours a day from M-F. Yes, I took an unpaid internship. I'm a rising sophomore and it's a firm owned by a mutual.

I wanted to take a few days off (2-3 days) just to have time with my family this summer. It would be at about my 7th week. I think I am more than entitled to this (unpaid), but I don't want to give the wrong impression to the owner since my buddy put in a good word for me.

The firm is obviously not going to collapse without me, but at the same time I have been given meaningful tasks every week, which I appreciate.

How should I ask for time off?
