Too late for IB Recruitment

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not too late for you as a sophomore at UM to break into IB recruitment, but you'll need to act quickly and strategically. Networking is critical, and UM has a strong alumni network and resources you can leverage. Here’s what you can do:

1. Start Networking Aggressively: Attend Ross networking events (even as a non-Ross student, you're allowed to participate). Reach out to alumni, especially those in IB, and schedule informational interviews. Many successful UM students, even non-Ross ones, have landed BB roles through networking.

2. Leverage Campus Resources: UM offers peer coaches, full-time counselors, and career services that can help refine your resume, mock interview, and connect you with alumni. Use these resources to your advantage.

3. Join Finance Clubs: If you're not already in one, aim to join top finance clubs like MII, GIC, MIBC, or AIC. These clubs provide exclusive opportunities and rigorous prep for interviews. While competitive, they can significantly boost your chances.

4. Focus on Late Recruiting Opportunities: Some banks and roles may still have openings. Keep an eye on smaller firms, boutiques, or regional offices that may recruit later in the cycle.

5. Prepare for Interviews: Start practicing technicals and behavioral questions. Use guides and resources to ensure you're polished and ready when opportunities arise.

UM students, even those outside Ross, have proven that with hustle, preparation, and networking, it's possible to secure IB roles. You still have time, but the clock is ticking—get started now!
