Too late for sophomore summer?

Sophomore at non-target, have been networking heavily for junior year IB and currently at around 110 calls, expecting a solid amount of interviews over next couple of months.

I am doing well but didn’t prioritize networking for sophomore summer at all, have an incoming spring internship at a hedge fund locally but know a few people with soph summers in LA/NY and wish I did a bit more to land something. Understand a lot of these are nepo but are people landing these just spamming cold emails at random IB/PE shops? Trying to figure out if it’s still a possibility.

From what I’ve seen most people don’t get their sophomore summer internships until the beginning of that same year. There will bee tons of smaller but very reputable firms that will post stuff on Handshake and other job boards over the next few months, so don’t worry too much. Also, definitely start cold emailing senior people at boutiques in mid January.

For summer analyst interviews all you’re going to be able to say is “I’ve done XYZ and I have an upcoming internship”. How much of a difference does it make between spring and summer if you won’t have started it before interviewing for summer analyst programs in Q1? The insanely early timeline is a separate issue but I think you’re fine man. I just extended my offseason internship to over the summer, so I worked at the same local shop for almost a year from sophomore fall to the end of that next summer.
