Too late to barrage alums with emails?
Made it to a few final rounds at BBs on campus but no SA offer. Have applied via online to BBs that didn't come on campus, have not heard anything. Do you think it's too late at this point to call up alums and ask that they help me get a first round interview? I'm talking about groups that didn't come on campus like Merrill Lynch and UBS, etc. or Should I just focus on boutiques?
In this case, since they have not come to campus, I would call the BBs. What's the worst that can happen? At minimum, you'll be in the same boat that you are in right now. Besides, your efforts may get you on the interview list for FT. People remember the proactive candidates.
You should definitely network with alumni at the banks that don't recruit at your school. I am at a non-core and networked my way into getting some IBD SA interviews. Good luck.
Is it weird/unacceptable to send out emails to alums who may have just graduated within the past year or two that you didn't know in school?
fibows, no.
Honestly when I see an email from someone I don't know asking me about banking, I'm always impressed that they were proactive and enthusiastic. WORK the alumni network and never take "no" for an answer unless it comes directly from the person who interviewed you, in which case it does mean no.
