transfer student gpa background check

Hey guys

Im a rising senior attending a semi-target and want some advice from you guys. So my old school's gpa is 3.8 and my current school's gpa is around 3.2 So i was thinking about putting two gpas in there. However, I have some misdemeanor charges in my old school so I am afraid that it might show up while they are doing background check.

Are HR or background check company going to request my old school's transcript for background check?

I have seen some internship applications that require transcripts for a certain timeframe. For example, I transferred to a different college and will start classes in a week but the internship I'm planning on applying to in November requires transcripts for at least the past 12 months. Had they not specified this I would just be submitting my sparkly new grades. Also, I've been searching for the correct response for this in the older forums and there is a lot of useful info regarding GPA and transcripts. You might find a more direct answer there to supplement this thread.

The truth is, there's no definite answer.

While it IS sketchy to "combine" GPA, in the real world, if you had a 3.6 at your new college and a 3.7 at your old one, and you put a 3.65, I don't think that small .5 is going to make that big of a difference.

However, if you combine a 3.2+3.8, HR probably will not be as accomodating.

the background checks are pretty in depth and they almost certainly will find out you were a transfer student even if you don't tell them. in fact they definitely will because they verify education dates and if yours aren't 3/4 years at your current uni then they're gonna ask questions. however, all they do is verify dates and grades in 90% of cases. any written academic reference will be from your current university so i would put both. if the offenses aren't serious (non-violent/fraud related) then honesty is the best policy.

Is your MisD a criminal record? Could be a problem.

Or is it on the school records only? Should not be a problem. Can explain further?

sorry for a quick thread hijacking but a quick question....

Current gpa is 3.19.

transffered from 2 different schools to my current school. Will employers probably find this out since im graduating in a year. Or is their anyway to hide this. On my transcript now, it just says transfer credts. So I assume if I tell them my reasons for trasferring it would be somewhat ok

No worries, you didn't lie about anything. I know a guy who majored in econ, transferred to a different school, changed his major to something else, and took two/three more econ classes to finish up his econ major, got A/A- in them and only listed his econ gpa on his resume (but labeled it that way too). That way the GPA on his resume was around 3.9, even though it only represented very few classes. This is almost lying, but technically he was still saying the truth (because he labeled it "econ major gpa"). He passed his background check just fine. I wouldn't recommend doing this, but you can see that as long as you're not lying (which you're not), you are fine. Plus your case is not even close to this guy in terms of 'tweaking the truth'.

Good luck!
