Transferring question

I am a sophomore at William and Mary and was wondering if it was worth it to transfer to an ivy league school (or similar) in order to get a job in Real Estate PE or Investment Banking out of college. I have a really strong GPA (3.9) and I am starting to meet a lot of contacts through family and have been promised an interview for my junior summer at a BB IB.

Basically the question is... are the strong contacts I have on wall street stronger than getting a degree from an Ivy, or is WM just fine?

You will definitely get ib interview opportunities from W&M. There are a decent number of W&M grads on the Street. You'll get ib interviews so there 's no need to transfer.

I'd recommend just staying at W&M unless you really want to transfer, keep doing what you're doing and break into a BB IB RE group which is actually easy to do because most people try to avoid groups like FIG and RE. Also, RE sometimes has a separate recruiting process at most firms.

If you want Real Estate PE, I'd recommend transferring to Wharton or Stern.

Sounds like you should stay. I was in a similar position my sophomore year - was doing well at another non-target and considered switching. I stayed for mainly two reasons. 1) I really liked my friends and didn't want to leave, and 2) I already put myself in a great position for junior year recruiting by getting leadership positions and making connections at my school. If you just pack up everything and move for your junior year you will have to start fresh, which would totally suck. Recruiting from a non-target is not easy, but it's definitely possible.
