Reuters had this to say about trumps one time 10% repatriation plan:
"While that could set up substantial repatriation of corporations' $2.6 trillion held overseas, both history and logic indicate that the lion's share will be used to flatter per-share earnings by buying back shares rather than to grow top-line revenues."
But might there be a third option? Trump wants to finance new infrastructure with private money. Can these large cash piles be used in this form? Tech as an industry with the largest stockpile of overseas cash, with just eight tech companies making up more than a fifth of the $2+ trillion in profits non repatriated. We need heavy modernization to get our grid more interconnected, so... This could also be a way to make amends between an industry that heavily scoffed at a Trump presidency.
I'm not looking to use this in any real way, just looking at overall expectations in my own idealistic perspective. It's total speculation. What are your thoughts on the 10% rate in general? And are investors tired of the non-value-add buybacks yet?
