UK target schools for IB/EB?
Besides the obvious Oxbridge/LSE/Imperial/UCL schools what other UK universities can be considered as target/semi-target schools? I'm mainly thinking along the lines of Edinburgh/Manchester, are they considered target/semi-target schools? Of course a good GPA and a degree in finance/economics/business is a given.
What is the general opinion of these types of schools when considering a career in IB/EB?
I'd say after the 5 that you mentioned, Warwick definitely places really well in BBs in London.
Warwick is also a target uni. Also consider semi targets like Bristol, Durham, Bath, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Exter
Bath, ESCP Europe (only 1st year in London), Durham, Cass
These universities would be considered targets (i.e. many / most banks visit these places) - Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Imperial, UCL, Warwick, LBS (postgrad)
These universities would be considered 'semi-targets' (i.e. some banks visit these places though not all) - Durham, Bristol, Nottingham, Cass
These universities are basically either semi-targets or are close to being semi-targets (i.e. they're held in the same regard as the group above, however, they tend to send less people to IB for various reasons) - Bath, Edinburgh, Exeter, KCL, Manchester, St. Andrews
I'm sure there are a few others that could make a case for being mentioned
Agree with what’s been said. Especially Warwick. And I think Cass punches above its weight. But I disagree with that you “need to study Finance/Economics/Business”. On the contrary, I think Finance/Business degrees tends to be bad in the U.K. on an undergrad level—too fluffy—and BB/EB’s are extending offers to people from other degrees. Generally speaking, where you study tends to matter more in the U.K., rather than what.
Yep - degree doesn't matter as much. University is more important.
Also as someone who has done A+F at UK undergrad level, I am pretty sure that I'd find the hard sciences or essay subjects more challenging to study. Perhaps that would've translated to me being more prepared for the rigours of IB (though I'd argue IB is difficult due to the pace + accuracy + stamina that the work needs rather than being conceptually difficult). But more to the point, I do not see A+F/ Management being looked down on when it comes to IB recruitment whatsoever, for any bank or PE firm. The reason why BB/EBs are extending offers to people from other degrees is because they have an equally strong or better university and/or a solid all-round profile. They also favour universities such as Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial that don't offer pure business subjects at undergrad level.
