UK VISA SYSTEM

Hey, guys, would appreciate any information if anyone is well-versed in this general realm. I want to go to Warwick in the UK next year. I'm technically an Indian citizen, although I grew up in the US.

What does the visa system look like in the UK for an Indian citizen? Do firms still give internships to internationals? Can you convert the SA experience into an FT offer as an international? The US has the whole lottery system with H1B and getting a green card is very difficult as an Indian (if you look at current backlog details on the USCIS visa bulletin). How does the UK compare with things like acquiring work authorization and eventually permanent residence?

Any and all information is greatly appreciated, thank you so much in advance!

Thanks for the response! Is there some sort of cycle after being sponsored or do you simply get sponsored and then work for 5 years until you get the residency?

Yes to most of your questions - you'll still get internships (you can work off the back of your Tier 4 outside of term time - there is no need to sponsor for an internship if you're on a student visa and outside of term)

FT is much better than the US - there's no lottery (and no cap if you're Tier 4 to Tier 2) and if a firm likes you they can sponsor. I would note as well if you're starting studies next year you'll likely have a 2 years post-study work visa that is much more flexible than the current regime

PR / ILR is a function of staying for 5 years in the UK and being compliant with UK HO restrictions and regulations for eligibility - you can look up on the Home Office website itself
