Use inappropriate word in application

So another mistake in my application. I use the word "oriental" to describe my background (I'm Asian & International) I was just thinking it is involved in eastern aesthetics and philosophy. I never realize it may relate to race... I am wondering how bad it is. Appreciate any help.

Thanks for the response! makes me feel better. I just found that "Distinct within American culture, some American English speakers consider the term "Oriental" to be an antiquated, pejorative, and disparaging term.", from Wikipedia. I just worry that this word could be offensive, especially when I use this word to talk about my diverse background.
