Based on the most helpful WSO content, UT Dallas (UTD) is generally considered a non-target school for investment banking and high finance roles. While UTD does have some solid candidates and programs, such as an investing-club type program offered in sophomore year, it often gets overshadowed by schools like UT Austin (McCombs) and SMU, which have stronger reputations and networks for finance recruiting.

UTD students may face more challenges breaking into top-tier finance roles, but opportunities exist, especially for those who excel academically, actively network, and leverage any available resources or clubs. Some students also use UTD as a stepping stone, transferring to more target schools like UT Austin after their sophomore year to improve their chances in competitive recruiting processes.

Associate at an EB in Houston. Going to be blunt…I don’t think we’ve ever given an interview to anyone from UTD, let alone an offer.

It’s just not a very competitive/reputable school for finance/business majors, and Rice, UT, SMU, A&M, TCU (in that order) have plenty of good candidates to choose from when filling our limited slots (and that’s just TX). Lot of competition from the more selective schools in surrounding states too.
