Very ridiculous interview feedback

I recently interviewed with a middle market bank, my interviewer gave me feedback by saying my answers were too perfect so she suspected I was reading the scripts. I was rejected as a result.

I’m just wondering if she could use her “smart” brain to think how a candidate with only M&A experience would write scripts for Capital Markets questions. And how could I answer all ten questions without hesitation. Finding scripts even needs time…

This is the most ridiculous interview feedback I have ever heard.

This happened to me too -- but instead they gave me an offer a day later with a 50k sign on bonus.

I think it is possible you misunderstood this feedback, its possible you just came off as unnatural/scripted when you answered. This feedback is essentially her saying you did not come across as a behavioral fit for the team for whatever reason (tone, lack of eye contact, and the most confusing one 'vibes'). 

Also for future, I have found unless the interviewer is a mentor/close contact the feedback is sometimes just jargon they peddle to make you go away. 

 

I received a similar feedback a couple years ago for an internship in Europe, interviewer saying I "did too well, not very natural". It left me surprised and quite sceptical to say the least. 

A month or so later I learned the candidate who got the offer is the daughter of a UMM Partner. Non-target school, liberal arts major, no prior IBD experience.

Suddenly it all made sense.  

 

Feel this situation happens in EU a lot. Office politics is very strong. My feedback was from inside not HR. Nothing to say, just speechless

I'm skeptical of interview candidates who regurgitate answers from interview guides with no ounce of originality. For those who script and prep responses, totally fine but for the love of god please remember that delivery is just as important. Nice try though.

Strong candidates use guides as a baseline and weave that into their own narratives and stories. These are the ones who come off natural and confident. Perception is super important. 

Really the ones I'm most skeptical of have "incoming" on their titles. 

 

Memorised BoE rates & UK inflation for an interview – only to be stopped by the interviewer in the middle of my sentence & accused of reading from......somewhere.......; can be be tricky looking at the inanimate camera instead of the literal face on the screen

 

This happened to me for my top choice company in my 2nd year while applying to companies on-campus. Only person on campus to get an interview and this was the feedback I got. Got really weird vibes from the interview itself so I probably dodged a bullet not getting hired despite having friends I trust professionally that work there and love it.

 

Best piece of advice I can give you is imagine you’re talking to a friend but you’re very professional. Have that mentality - show that you’re human and you have warmth, not like you’re speaking to a robot and they’re thinking “oh he said this check”. Understand what I mean? You’re speaking to a person not having a math quiz.
