Wallstreet Intership

Hi boys,

I am an undergrad at a non-target school. I work at a private equity internship right now that is really not that great, I can make it look nice on paper, but my main concern is networking. I have a decent GPA (3.7), but I don't know anybody in IB and have no way of finding any. My school is very small and nobody works at any IBs. I've read a lot on WallstreetOasis about how impossible it is to get a SA job by applying online. Any tips about making connections, applying, etc. I am determined to get a job in IB and would appreciate any insight. Thanks

The same way everyone from a non-target networks. Find the name of the firms you are interested in. Go on linkedin and type that firms name in. Jot down two or three names. Call the boutique bank and ask for the general email address (usually something like [email protected]). With that, guess name combinations along the lines of john.smith@bank or jsmith@bank, etc. Your email will send a failed delivery message if the email doesn't exist (serves as a check feature). Send a short email along introducing yourself and asking for 5-10 minutes of their time. I would say 10-20% of people respond, so it's not a bad gig.

I'm sure plenty of people of WSO will flame me for posting this, but its actually a pretty viable, no hassle approach.
