What are my chances - Currently working for GE Corporate Audit Staff
I am currently working for GE Corporate Audit Staff (the premier leadership program within GE... most GE CFOs & CEOs come from there) as a senior associate. I currently rank in the top 10% of that audit group. I am obviously pretty good at accounting, xls, power point pitching and executive communication. I hold an MBA not from a top school but with a good GPA (3.8)
I am interested in switching to IB. What do you think my chances are to land an associate job (1st year) in a BB?
How can I get some interviews (most banks tends to do recuiting events on campus...) - does the bank website solution realistic?
Thanks for ur input
Hi,
Sorry I'm not in a position to answer your question (non-grad hiring into 1Y associate position). I'm just curious, what makes you want to get into IB given the position you are in right now, i.e. MBA with good prospects for advancement within a well-known company (I know about GE's Audit team).
First, there is no job within GE that I would like to do in 10years... and that'd mean 10 years of boring (to me) things to eventually get where I want to be. Second, the money - I barely make half of what an associate1 makes in IB, which is not enough given that I work over 80h a week - and GE is not know for paying well. Third, in the long term I want to be in the PE or VC arena, which is clearly not something I can do with GE in good conditions...
make sure not to use Money as a reason for moving
thanks aspringmonkey.....thanks for that bit of insight for everyone....thank you, so so much
ah sarcasm...we meet again
do u think it is a stretch, or can I really find something in a BB?
banks don't really look at online apps from what I've heard...your best bet is to talk to a head hunter
I submitted a couple of resumes on efinance.com, vault, theladders etc... I have a few contacts in IB over in Europe and Canada.
I just want to make sure than my operational background + accounting is just not a show stopper.
Thanks for your feedback
If you have an operational background, you'd be better suited for PE. Why waste your time at an IB?
so I figured I got a BB name on my resume and after 2/3 years if I can't make it to VP, I switch to PE
2-3 years to make it to VP is pretty much impossible...don't you need 4-5 years under your belt for that?
a good feel about whether u have what it takes to make it to VP...
