What Can I Do To Be Successful?

Currently a junior at top 30 schools with a 3.6 GPA and previous boutique IB experience. I wasn't able to secure interviews for my junior SA recruiting season because I had a lower GPA earlier. Currently, I have a 3.6 GPA now going in FT. What can I do to secure a FT Analyst job at a BB/EB?

Good start! Good to be in Manhattan - use that to network but you'll have to be subtle. If you are too aggressive you'll be blowing off your boutique. Getting an offer from them will be a minimum req to land FT at a BB so make sure you're on point this summer.

Network your tail off & get something finance-relevant for the summer. FT recruiting is going to be tough, even with contacts at a bank you're applying for.

FT BB/EB IBD is extremely hard to get without a EB/MM/BB internship. Most FT programs are filled with SA spots right?

Honestly, since your at a no-name boutique, I would focus on moving up to MM. It's more realistic, and probably less people are doing that . Good luck

You're actually doing OK. Better than many on WSO. You're off to a good start with a summer internship at the boutique. I'm not sure if you'll be able to pull off landing at a BB, but it's not completely out of the question either.

You may also want to keep an open mind about a stint in research at a BB and transferring over to IBD after a year.

Work your butt off this summer and use any spare time you have to network. You want the offer from these guys.

You'll be competitive for MMs and elite boutiques if you network. Then maybe lateral to BB. Don't get too fixated on any one group/bank/bracket.....recruiting is a crapshoot even for people with gold plated stats.

While in NYC, reach out to lots of people and aggressively network in your last month. Again....cast a wide net. It's a numbers game.
