What course is preferred for IB

I got accepted into UCL for economics and statistics with A*AB grades (b in further maths. will retake). Do you think it would be better for me to transfer to pure economics if I want a career in finance. I don't really like complex maths that much anymore. Apart from career prospects the economics building is also much better so that would be a plus.

its easier to explain why you want to do ib if you have a vanilla business/econ degree. since you're fine from that perspective, i would just consider your own personal feelings towards stats and complex maths

Agree with all of the above. Neither moves the needle for recruiting.

I did pure Economics at UCL but leant heavily into the statistical / econometrics parts.

Another user pointed this out but be wary of what you're getting into with either course. The maths within pure Economics at UCL is wild (especially if Pemberton is still teaching which I hear he is. And I hear he still makes the textbook he wrote required reading - hero of our times).

As a serious point, I found the statistical concepts much more useful vocationally in IB. Being able to explain to someone why a low R^2 doesn't really matter in a correlation chart. Understanding sample size and standard deviation concepts at a very robust level, etc. Don't let that influence your decision though.
